About Green Glue
Green Glue is a water-based, viscoelelastic damping compound. Green glue’s performance is higher than any product of its type. Green Glue has a damping coefficient of 0.5 versus 0.1 for the competitive products. It dampens air and structure borne sound and can be used in virtually any drywall wall or ceiling assembly. Green Glue can also be used in plywood and OSB assemblies.
In a CLD (constrained layer damping) system, a damping material is sandwiched between two other materials. (I.E - Green Glue sandwiched between two layers of drywall). Damping occurs when the viscoelastic center of the "sandwich" is sheared between the rigid layers.
When bent, shear forces stretch the damping material and under these conditions, the unique polymeric construction of Green Glue very efficiently converts this mechanical energy to heat. The vibration energy is not isolated, it's dissipated and gone.
Green Glue is extremely easy to use - No special trades or training required - Green Glue is Ideal for DIY applications.
Usage and Function
Wall and Ceiling
- Improved sound isolation
- Excellent low frequency isolation
- Thoroughly lab tested
- Eliminates short circuit risk in resilient channel walls
- Allows construction of the highest performance walls possible (combined with double stud walls)
- Reduction in structure-borne sound
- Low cost product = great $$$/performance
Floors
- Reduced impact noise
- Improved resistance to airborne sound
- Lower in cost than most floor treatments
- Reduction in structure-borne sound
Other Applications
- Tremendous performance as risers, equipment platforms, stages, and other unique structures found in home theaters.
- DIY and OEM loudspeaker construction - more inert cabinets with damping factors up to 20x higher than raw MDF
